Tooth Whitening

What is Tooth Whitening?

Professional whitening helps to lift and dissolve stains and deep discoloration from your teeth. The whitening that we offer can be done in the comfort of your own home. Whitening is safely done and can eliminate stains that are causing you to feel badly about your appearance. Professional whitening delivers dramatic results over a shorter period of time than other treatments you might have used in the past.

Why is Tooth Whitening needed?

The main reason you might want to whiten your teeth is because you’re tired of having a yellowed, dull and stained smile. Whitening is best suited to adult patients who have otherwise healthy teeth. Some of the reasons your teeth might look yellowed and dull include:

  • Smoking
  • Smokeless tobacco
  • Medications
  • Drinking coffee, tea or soda
  • Aging
  • Staining foods (berries, chocolate)
Found our new dentist office. The ladies here are so nice and the kids did wonderful. Highly recommend!

Who is a good candidate for Tooth Whitening?

Most healthy adult patients are good candidates for whitening. Professional whitening will not lighten the color of your restoration work, such as fillings, bonding, crowns and bridges. For this reason, it’s important that your goal is to whiten your natural teeth rather than the restorations you currently have. Patients with severe sensitivity may need other treatment options prior to having whitening done.

What happens during the Tooth Whitening process?

We start by taking impressions of your teeth. These molds are then used to make new trays for you that can be worn in conjunction with the whitening gel we’ll provide you with. Your next appointment involves fitting the trays to ensure they’re comfortable and secure. These trays keep saliva out and the whitening gel in to accelerate results and provide you with whiter, brighter teeth. You will be given instructions on how to wear the whitening trays for optimal results. Oftentimes, this is only for about an hour a day or overnight depending on the degree of staining that you currently have.

If you think you might like to whiten your teeth professionally, call our office today and we will be able to schedule an appointment for you.
