Fixed Bridges

What are Fixed Bridges?

A fixed bridge is a type of restoration that is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Fixed bridges are made to look and feel like real teeth. It’s not uncommon for bridges to last for decades before replacement is needed. Fixed bridges attach to the two surrounding teeth with the middle part of the bridge replacing the tooth or teeth that are missing.

Why are Fixed Bridges needed?

The most common reason for needing a fixed dental bridge is because you’re missing teeth. Rather than wear a partial denture, the fixed bridge can be attached to the two surrounding teeth. It is not removable and can act as your natural teeth, filling in your smile and improving functionality. Bridge work is custom-made for each individual patient needing the restoration.

Why Are Fixed Bridges Needed

Who is a good candidate for Fixed Bridges?

We can examine your teeth to determine if you might need a fixed dental bridge. Most patients who need bridge work can easily and safely have the procedure done. Placing a bridge not only helps to improve the appearance of your smile, but it makes eating and chewing your favorite foods easier. Your new bridge can last for many decades and will not require any special care or treatment.

What happens during the procedure for a Fixed Bridge?

We will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area being worked on. We then file down the two surrounding teeth and take impressions of this area. The impressions will be used to create a brand new dental bridge just for you. Your second visit into the office involves placing the permanent bridge. We will make any and all adjustments to the bridge at this appointment so that the fit is as comfortable as possible. Replacing an older bridge is done in the same manner, except we will remove the restoration and clean the underlying tooth structure.

If you think you might need a fixed bridge, call our office today and we will be happy to get you in for a convenient appointment.
